BTAs work in laboratories usually with DNA, RNA, proteins, bacteria and plant, animal and/or human cells. These laboratories can be found in the industrial sector, hospitals, food control, police departments and at university and non-university research facilities. At these laboratories, for example, diseases are studied, foods are inspected, the environment is monitored, relationships are discovered using genetic fingerprints or climate is researched.
Biological technical assistants work primarily experimentally in all areas of scientific laboratories. Their job is to carefully plan studies, carry out experiments and measurements on their own and to correctly evaluate and assess the results thereof. They usually work in a team together with scientists from various disciplines. The work requires great expertise, practical and organizational skills and above all, a great interest in scientific matters.
